We will be driving from Cincinnati to Long Island (Medford, NY) for a wedding in June. Maps are all saying toll routes, but not how much the tolls will be. I've heard rumors of $30-$60 each way to get through NY to Long Island. Is that true? Any recommendations on best route for both speed and low (or no) tolls?

Probably be traveling through Amish country (Lancaster area) one way, and through Philadelphia and/or D.C. the other way.
Any recommendations on places to stay near Medford? Or places to avoid?
Best sites along the way?

Thanks for any help!

Yes, get ready for some sticker shock. We grew up on Long Island and when we come back we are just appalled at the cost of getting into the area - and we used to be used to it!

Anyone coming to visit Long Island has to experience the Belt Parkway.

If you take route 78 into the holland tunnel (toll) thru the NYC to the BQE to the LIE is a cheaper way of traveling with the only one toll but the traffic could be bad depending on the time...

Right and have them head across Canal Street or around thru the Battery... Not good moves for 1st time drivers thru NY

What part of Medford? My suggestion for staying around there would be the Hampton Inn on CR 83(North Ocean Ave) and LI Expressway North Service road

Get to Philly, get to NJ, go north on the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 13. Take the Gothels Bridge to Staten Island (I-278), cross the Verrazano Bridge into Brooklyn and the Belt Parkway East to the Southern State Pkwy East to the end. It will then merge in to Sunrise Hwy, head East from there.

Or maybe they can cruise up I-95 to I-80 and over the GWB where they'll encounter the 'whopper'... the Cross Bronx Expressway. I'm fairly confident there's bumper-to-bumper traffic on that POC roadway 7x24.
