Hello,
My husband and I are interesting in purchasing a home we both really like but I am not quite sure how I feel about the area. It's in Huntington Station right by Silas Wood Middle School. From what we can tell it's outside the obviously less desirable areas of Huntington Station. The house and the surrounding streets seem nice enough and we have heard good things about the South Huntington school district. Is there anything we should be worried about or know?
Isnt the location in the other thread about signing a lease and need input in Huntington Station, the same general location as this poster is asking? To me if so, very different replies on both threads.
OP please read the other thread about signing a lease in Huntington Station.
Not a terrible neighborhood. You pretty much can't go over to 110 after dark, nor Depot Rd. though.
That area has been pretty stable, so although the less desirable area is close, in the past 30-40 years it really hasn't encroached at all.
I've worked within a mile of there since 1982 and I assure you the area has in fact changed. A lot. The Latino population is encroaching into that neighborhood but they are for the most part very pleasant and hard-working people.

If they are pleasant and hard working, then nothing has changed, except skin color and I forgot that's the only thing that matters on Long Island! I know St. Hugh's is pretty much all Latino now, right?

It is the same area - probably the guy from that thread's girlfriend. I think my answer was pretty much the same, and I made a mistake yesterday thinking they were between 110 and Oakwood (and I couldn't edit it today).
I would rent first, get the feel of the area, and learn more about Huntington Station and LI in general before making such a big commitment.
