Anyone know of a good person to call to check out our heating system? We have three zones and one of them is not functioning. Also, how do they charge you? Is it by the hour? What's the going rate? Many thanks

I'm a house dummy and we bought this house after the system was put in, so don't really know what we have. But the unit's label says "burnham hydronics" and runs on gas. For the three lines coming out of the unit, two are hot and one is just a little bit warm. My dad mentioned something like needing to release some pressure/water from that valve. I'll try to post a picture of the unit later if that helps.

I think he means, hot water, steam - whatever. Baseboards, radiators forced hot air. You must know the basics.

You probably need to bleed the air out of that zone that is not getting hot.

I recommend Universe Appliance, 516-781-6565, we actually have annual contract with them at a cost of about $300 and it's an amazing value that includes inspections twice a year and replacement for many items. We needed to have a zone valve replaced, it was at no charge. I strongly recommned for you to get a contract either with them or another reputable heating provider. Even Keyspan has these annual maintenance contracts, but the response time of Universe is amazing.

Is this something that can be done yourself? Or will this require a professional?

Sounds like air in that zone. Did you have any work done this past year.....move a baseboard convetor (radiator)? I could be a bad zone valve or pump.....pic may help.
