I've been at work in Brooklyn since last night but I paid 3.65 yesterday afternoon in Mt. Sinai. Gas Buddy website is now showing 3.99 at the same station. Its showing all the stations at around 4 dollars a gallon. This site is usually pretty accurate. Are they listing the wrong prices?
Don't worry, it's just a question of when we'll see a price hike... I think San Fran is now a few pennies more for a gallon of regular, but LI is competing for the top spot constantly.

I bet in the long term we will drop down lower than SF. I pay 3.59 at a mobil in Massapequa

If you look at the longer term trends, we now track very closely to N. California. No. Cal has historically been very expensive, whereas LI has not always experienced such high prices. Our gas prices now tend run among the highest in the country and I don't think this is temporary.
For the record, our regular gas prices are now $.04 or .05 lower than SF. But we're still almost a full dollar higher than Denver, $.40 cents higher than Jersey and so on.
a new mobil station recently opened up in massapequa and his prices for regular for $3.59. everyone else in the hood were at least 10 cents more. but since the owner of this station owns 200 other stations, he can afford to keep it low. the other stations in the area were suffering because of his low prices so eventually everyone else was forced to lower thiers to the new stations price.

It's an old fashioned price war!
