Almost all you do it tied to your SS#. In order to get a comcast account I had to provide my SS number,
as far as I know it is routine practice to leave the hospital with an infant who only hours old has been assigned a SS number. You buy a house or sell a house and you guessed it SS number is on it. Open a bank account, SS number, credit card, library card, passport, drivers license.....SS number for all.
