Just finished removing a massive wisteria in our backyard along the rear property line. It was planted and maintained by the previous homeowner, but for me it became an overgrown nuisance, devouring yard space and shading out other more desirable plants and garden space.

Now exposed is about 6-8 feet of rather old chain-link fence. I'm looking for suggestions on plants, flowers, shrubs, etc. that would be good to plant along the fence line. Not necessarily looking for privacy plantings, just something to lead the eye away from the fence and the make the now-empty spot a bit more attractive. Maybe some perennial flowers that thrive in full sun or nearly full sun conditions. The area is along the southern edge of the yard but it gets close to full sun exposure from behind in the summer months until late afternoon.

Is it 6-8 feet height of fence along the rear property line or just 6-8 feet wide space that you're asking about?

6-8 feet wide. I'm guessing that's how much fence will remain exposed after other shrubs and plants grow in the spring.

You might consider a Clematis vine or two to grow up on the fence. Many different color flowers available. They like their "heads in the sun and feet in the shade" so you could grow any number of different perennials or a low shrub in front.

Perhaps a daylily like Stella D'Oro the longest bloomer or the low evergreen shrub Euonymus Emerald Gaiety or Emerald & Gold
