You will definitely hear and maybe feel the rumble of the train at just a thousand feet. If it is close to an intersection, they will also blow the train whistle. Check this out very carefully before you move forward.
i am checking a house @Syosset. its about 1000 ft away from train line and there is small bush between the house and train line.
is this train line a major and busy one? we have a 6month baby so worried about the noise level...
any comments would be appreciated
What I would suggest is to catch the Syosset LIRR schedule and walk around the area a few times when the train passes. You'll get a good idea immediately.

We saw houses in Syosset that backed the train. No way would we buy those. It's not city type of noise, but if you have extreme suburban quiet then sudden noise, it's still noise that's a big deal.
If its not near a crossing then no , there shouldn't be much noise....if with diesels....if its near a crossing then there will be alot of noise.
