I was helping a friend two days ago in Nassau Shores in Massapequa clean out his stuff and a Red Cross truck stopped to see if we needed anything. It really hit home to see that.

Red Cross is doing an amazing job as usual. Warm beds, hot meals. Real front line assistance, not political lip service about "government working together" (to pat each other on the back). I've seen it up close. Quite inspiring.

I heard the fire house in Island Park is collecting stuff ...as that area got hit very hard but isn't getting the coverage that Long Beach is. I'm trying to get some stuff together to send up.

Don't know where you are located, but a lot of fire departments are collecting food, clothing and blankets and delivering them to fire departments in stricken areas or to Red Cross centers. The Red Cross is doing a fabulous job as are the local community organizations.

We are looking to help out with food or clothing deliveries to people in need.
But we're having trouble finding out who to contact to volunteer. All the information we're finding is just asking for money or donations.
Anyone have some info?
Thanks

On ReD Cross page found this message:

"Thank you for your interest in becoming a shelter volunteer, but we have currently fulfilled our immediate needs to staff our shelters. If a need for volunteers arises again, we will update this page with that information. Thank you for your support."

That's wonderful! It shows that lots of people are able to put aside the divisions we face & pitch in to help their neighbors when the need arises.
