Hi,

Has anyone dealt with standard 30 yr jumbo mortgages through Teachers Federal Credit Union for Nassau?

Their rates look great..... just wondering....

My current Mortgage Broker never seems to mention them to me when he talks to me about banks.....

Thanks!

They seem to have the lowest rates around but when I called them last week they said they aren't taking applications for any closing less then 60-80 days out. That means they must be swamped with re-fi's and purchases. Since I'm in contract to close in about 50 days it wasnt an option for me. I ended up going with Bethpage, their rate was pretty competitive but more importantly they could have everything done by my "on or about" date.
Good Luck!

Has anyone refi'd through TFCU? I haven't yet applied, but I got a preliminary quote from them. It includes a hefty recording tax. I thought mortgage recording tax is avoidable if the mortgage is "assigned" from my current lender to TFCU, as opposed to having TCFU extend a brand new mortgage and having my current mortgage paid off in full.

Can anyone comment on TFCU's refi closing costs/taxes? Are they competitive? Thanks.

Closed with TFCU in June, but not a jumbo mortgage.
I did not have a mortgage broker and only tried TFCU - they are my bank as well.
Was fast (took less than a month), simple and painfree. Even got some credit towards the mortgage since I am a "platinum member". Good experience all around.

For 1-2 weeks recently their 30y fixed rates dropped to 3.00%, which is hard to beat.
Now the rates a slightly rising again, but very competitive.

Thanks. By "painfree" do you mean no paperwork hassles or rather not nitpicking every piece of info? I do not have a bank account there. ..but it looks like their mortgages are open to all....

I would go with TFCU based on the cute owl mascot alone.

Owls are cool.

I mean, it took a single trip to their office and all was done in one shot.
I did read in advance what I need and had the documents with me.

There was a contact in the closing department, who was responsive when I had a question.
And they are perceived as safe/reliable. No downside, really.

I base all of my purchases on the companies' mascot...don't you?
