^ha, my oldest is 12 and they will definitely not want to hang out with you for very long but they will still go in the pool with you. we have this stupid inflatable see-saw and after his friends left, he asked if we could go on it together. the chemicals may be out of whack for all i know, but i am super proud of how clear the water is, i was sending out photos of it on Facebook
We just bought a ghetto 15' round pool on Monday, 3.5' deep is plenty for my kids, and I even got myself in there the other day also. Super easy to set up, and cost all of $200 for everything minus the chlorine tabs. Works for us, no need or room for a super big pool.
We just had a 15x27 in-ground, free form pool installed. My wife and I debated it for what seemed like forever until we decided to go ahead with it. The pool was finished last week and we had our first swim on Monday. I'm still not sure if it was the right choice for the long term, but watching my kids in it on Monday made it seem well worth it. They are 4 and 7 and we know that they will eventually outgrow it. But my wife grew up with a pool and always loved it; she was using her parents pool up until last summer to swim laps for exercise (now we have a little friendly cleanest water contest going with the inlaws!). I have a little touch of OCD, so working on keeping the pool clean gives me an outlet. We are worried about the kids, but we live across the street from a canal and every other house has a pool - so we are focused on teaching our kids how to swim and respect the water at home.
It is a personal choice and I agree with everyone on here that it is a responsibility not to be taken on lightly; I am also aware of the challenges that come with selling a home with a pool, but that is something I felt I could deal with in the future. Will I regret it??? Stay tuned!
Do u live in long island? If yes, then what's the ball figure on how much you spent? And would u be willing to name the company you used as a recommendation?
Aside from the obvious hassles that come with pool ownership, don't forget the unforeseen problems you could experience as well. My parents had a semi-in-ground pool installed about 10 years ago. The thing has been out of commission practically every other summer. The liner has been eaten straight through by termites 3 or 4 times and no exterminator or pool company has managed a way to stop it from happening. They're replacing the liner right now and have decided this is the last time -- if it happens again, they're just gonna bulldoze the stupid thing.

Who did you use to build your pool?? Would you recommend them???
I guess to maintain a pool I'll have to waste less time on the internet each day
