I was sick to my stomach last night to see Nassau County prominently featured (along with Houston, TX) on "Gang World's" episode about MS-13! They focused on Westbury with a side journey into Hempstead for the Salvadoran Festival (Hempstead Village cops were scoping out the crowd with binoculars looking for a killer from MS-13 of a 16-year old boy).
They had some good interviews with NCPD cops and Hempstead Village cops who are in their respective gang units. There's a computer program dedicated to gang members with photos, etc. There was one segment shown in Westbury where NCPD rousted some suspected gang members who were drinking out on the street and took photos of them and then forced them to pick up all the beer bottles littering the area (nice touch!).
I also found out from this show that the infamous LA street gang, 18th Street, is "alive and well" on LI and feuding with MS-13, as does Salvadorans With Pride. Another thing I found out was that these days MS-13 is mostly made up of American-born members, not illegal aliens.
It was sad to see Nassau County, LI portrayed in this manner, as a hometown of MS-13, but it was interesting to see the "behind the scenes" of the proactive measures our local police are doing to combat gangs.

Im not surprised LI should be so proude of the ghettos they created.
Yup, keep clinging to that "unique suburban character" Kate and stifle any modern development and the ghettos will grow while the nice areas add security gates. If you're not moving forward, you're going backwards. Incentivize business development, stop hindering it. Gut the building department and all it's taxpayer welfare hacks, cronies, cheap suit lawyers and patronage bums.

I would applaud if MS-13 stuck her up and shoved a gun in her face to give her a dose of reality. She has single-handedly done more to destroy the Town of Hempstead than anyone else. Yet, she handily got re-elected last November, so who are the fools? US!
I almost puked when during the rousting of the dudes in the park, when that one guy Det. Hairspray gets into a foot pursuit and then comes back saying " no way was I going to go in there ,its too dark" OMG..............

Yep Nassau (and Suffolk) both have their gang problems. Did they also mention the Latin kings, crips, and bloods (Hempstead), trinitarios in Freeport, MS also in glen cove, new cassel, port Washington, DDP in Rockville ctr. I could go on and on...
Gangs are a symptom of poverty and are endemic in many poor areas here and elsewhere. Not sure what you want the NCPD to do about it.
