elke-thanks for the info-what qualifies a homeowner for "enhanced star"?
Must be primary residence.
"All owners must be 65 years of age by December 31, 2012 (with the exception of husband and wife or sibling co-owners, only one owner needs to be 65.)" Proof of age is required.
Maximum income is $79,050 (Federal Adjusted Gross Income LESS taxable IRA) COLA applies for future years
Proof is required - copy of pages 1 and 2 of 2010 State or Federal Income Tax return
Oh, and enhanced STAR amount is double that of Basic STAR.
I only wanted to provide the info to alert any and all Suffolk members of C-D. Feel free to disregard
Don't misunderstand me I am extremely grateful for you sharing this info. My concern was that I, and I'm sure many other LI residents, would have otherwise never even known about this. Even though the link I referenced says I don't have to take action unless notified, I am still going to call and ask just to be sure.

Excellent idea! Especially since the Town of Huntington does expect the form to be submitted... I'm not going to call all other Towns unless I have a client where it's relevant.
And I'm not surprised that you (and surely many others) were unaware of the new "wrinkle". While there was SOME media coverage, it obviously was not enough! I just make it my business to know close to "everything" concerned with my business (being a CFP as well doesn't hurt ).
How do I know if my house has the Basic Star? I bought it about a year ago... Im not sure if there was something from Basic Star that carried over????
Do you have to apply for Star after you buy the home???
Eligibility doesn't carry over, so yes, you do have to apply! If you're in Nassau County, you missed the deadling (Jan. 2nd).
Elle any idea where this form goes in Town of Huntington? Tax assessor at town hall?
