I had a sprinker system at my house on LI (Town of North Hempstead). As many on this board know, I had to get a bunch of stuff legalized. As I was going through the nightmarish process, I started to freak out because of the sprinkler system. I figured it was one more thing I'd have to get a permit for. I did ask and was very relieved to hear the answer was no! One thing that IS required with a sprinker system though is an annual backflow test. It can be done by either the sprinker company or a plumber (cheaper). There's a form that has to be filled out and submitted to the water department. It's not a big deal; just more money to throw away. Of course there's also the usual maintenance like annual winterizing so the pipes don't freeze, replacing sprinkler heads from time to time, etc., but thankfully no permit.
Depends on the town.... Islip requires permits.... Though I have never heard any residential person getting them.
Someone DM'd me and asked if I knew someone who winterizes inground sprinklers. I figured I'd let everyone know that we do it ourselves using and air compressor to blow them out. If you have a compressor it's easy to do and takes a few minutes, then you are done. Just remember if you have yours set to a timer to shut it off.
Permit? I'll rip the the out before I give anymore money for my taxs. Probably be cheaper if I ripped it out after 20-30 yrs. Than give the county more tax $$
Easy there partner... I don't think in-ground sprinklers hit your assessment, since they can be ripped up.
Of course, if we talk about it, our local pols may get some ideas and start taxing them....
