The taste/flavor of the cigarette changes and might become unpleasant but if your desperate it really doesn't matter. Just like warm/flat beer beats no beer at all if you want it bad enough..

If the carton is cut and the packs are cut, they'll most likely go stale.

However, if a smoker buys cigarettes, they can store them in the fridge and they will stay fresh. That's what I used to do when I smoked. I quit cold turkey 8 years ago and it's the best thing I ever did!

not sure how it stays fresh in the fridge, it's very humid in there. It's better to stick them in a ziplock bag. A humidor is best if you have one.

My buddy Squirrel used to say when approached with "hey, got an extra cigarette?"... "nope, 20 in a pack, no extras!"
