Okay, so my employer basically required (though she didn't say so, it was assumed) that me and another employee come in for an evaluation test kind of thing. This test was not required for us to do our work, it was basically just to say that we are officially at a certain level, but again not required to do our work. I put this time down on my payslip and gave it to her. She never said anything about us not getting paid before we came in. When I got my paycheck back, the entire 4 hours that I was there was deducted off my paycheck and she didn't even tell me about it. She has, I believe, done this before, not only to me, but to other employees as well. Is this legal? Can an employer just cut shifts off your payslip and not tell you about it? She is very cheap and looks for any reason not to pay us and it's really pissing me off. Also, can someone please give me the info for employer laws for NY state, for individually owned businesses? I'm basically looking to see how many rules this woman is breaking...

Try your question in the General Forums, Work and Employment because you might not get many answers here as this is not the right forum for it.

I think your employer is obligated to pay you for those hours. You can report her to the NYS Department of Labor, Wage and Hours Division. I believe they have an office on Long Island.
