got my commitment letter today from the bank and they checked off the box that said i need flood insurance. was kinda confused about that because im no where near water. im like 2 mins from Ikea to give you a idea of where i am.

Well, I can't see why you would need it...however, FIMA did change the flood boundaries not too long ago. People who once weren't in a flood zone, now could be. I'm not sure what the northernmost boundary is though.

I grew up in Hicksville and dont ever remember it being near the water, it must be a mistake.

check with FEMA website if your address falls into the risk category then you might need it.

Also, check the flood maps. My mortage wanted me to get it as well, but after research I found my home to be in the X zone that is NOT mandatory to get the floor ins.

Its a mistake. Hicksville is not in a flood zone.

did the search by address and nothing came up. also clicked on the flood map area under "What are you looking for?" and cant even find Hicksville under Nassau County.Im going to ask the lender and see why they are asking me for flood insurance.Thanks for your help guys.

My lender also checked off that box for me a few months ago when I was getting my mortgage. Further down, it said it was required only IF the house was in a flood zone. Your insurance agent will determine this. The bank just checks it off for everyone to let them know that they need to check into it.
