So, as you all know, I spend a lot of time in Lexington because of my job. I lived in Lexington off and on several years ago. As recently as 5 years ago, there weren't a half a dozen restaurants that I would compare to any in Louisville or Cincinnati (of course staples like Jonathan at Gratz Park and the likes were rare). Now, Lexington holds its own.

For me, the epiphany that Lexington foodies were on to something was my discovery of Sunshine Bakery. This blows out anything in Louisville or Cincinnati. So, to the Lexington locals, what do you think is driving the food evolution in lex? Just 10 years ago, I would have said Lex was an "Applebee's and Fridays" town (that is Not a good thing)

Can Lexington get to the point where its food scene is self sufficient and locals never have to drive down the interstate to get something unique, chef driven, and locally sourced? Of course, Lexington being much smaller than its neighbors to the west and north, cannot be compared. How would you rate Lexington compared to similar sized metros? I can say after recent visits to Greenville SC and Little Rock Ark, that Lex has those two areas beat. Ditto for Ft wayne IN and Toledo OH.

So you visited the 1000's and 1000's of restaurants in each city to have a even comparison?

Do you remember those years before you hosted the World Equestrian Games in 2010? Frankly, you were a bit haggard, sporting that same outdated southern gentleman garb from decades ago. But now? Hot damn! I feel so chic when I'm with you. The urban gardens, independent shops, galleries and architectural renaissance are definitely tapping into your European roots. And your taste in food has drastically improved (thank God). You've gone and gotten all locavore on me and I'm liking it. A lot.

You are not the first to notice Peter. There has been a big, big boon in Lexington, in the last decade or so, in this area.
20 years ago, when I first moved here, it was mostly just chain restaurants, but lately the unique, and locally owned Cafe's, bakery's and restaurants have just boomed.

Peter do you mean the Sunrise Bakery?

Of course, I don't know if we could ever catch up with Louisville, Louisville is a foodie paradise, but Lexington is becoming a foodie city too, rapidly it seems.
