You can also use your friends address. As long as Nevada doesnt require proof of residency of the address.

Never heard of PO BOXes working...basically the police would like to know your specific address...where to find you, etc...and a PO BOX just doesnt do the job. That being said, DMV doesnt ALWAYS do their job correctly either...and its technically possible to get away without it being done properly.

Most states though, you need a proper address with proof of residency there - phone bills, etc.

They list everything you need on the DMV site: Nevada DMV New Resident Guide

You can even fill out the forms in advance. I'd recommend double checking to make sure you meet all the requirements. I was there not to long ago and watched about 1 in 4 people be turned away after waiting in line for 3 hours because they didn't have all their stuff together.

By the way... be prepared to be told that the next available driving test is 2 months away!! They also invalidate your previous license and expect you not to drive for those 2 months unless there is a licensed person 21 or over in your car at all times!!

Get an International Driving License(you need to get it from Costarica, it is easy to get) then after you have a street address you can go and get the regular NV license.

Default Nevada DMV

I am going to NV in a week

I spoke with the DMV today. The man I spoke with informed me of the following:
Over 21 -with a valid License- needs the following: out of state drivers license to exchange, birth certificate, and marriage certificate if you are married, and social security card. Thats it. There are no residency requirements because that was all part of REAL ID, and Nevada has done away with that.

That is most likely why one person experienced the DMV asking for proof of residency(before the Governor with the help of the ACLU did away with the Real ID) and now why others do not get asked. Not because DMV is not doing their job, but because we don't all know what gos on behind closed doors unless we ask.

Drivers License Fees as stated:
"Original Non-Commercial License or Instruction Permit $22 -- $17 if 65 or older"

Nevada publishes a registration fee calculator online, so it is easy enough to figure out what you are facing with those fees.
https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/vr_estimate/vrestimationinput.aspx

Good luck and happy trails

Panolover - if you hold an international driver's license, do you still need to take the driving test, or can you simply transfer yor existing one?
