I'm a regular visitor and now a home owner in Vegas. We always try to get to the South Point for their special when we are there. The food is good and cheap. Believe me, there is no shortage of customers at those hours.

Besides, you said there were no cheap food deals. When I point one out you come back with that? Don't get defensive, I was just posting info for those who might like good meal cheap.

Do you think midnight is the wee hours for visitors? My 71 year old mother-in-law stays out till 4-5 in the morning.

I agree. Most visitors do not ride the RTC but the buses run 24/7. So some people must be awake and out at 4AM.

Las Vegas has been trying to be like any other city by not allowing mobile strippers on the street, by being "tough" on prostitution, by being tough on drugs, by being tough on alleged illegal immigrants who pass out promotional material, by being tough on having too much fun.

What do you suggest Las Vegas do? To get people from all over to save up another couple paychecks and book the next flight out to the desert oasis!
Honestly, I think Vegas needs to do more to bring business outside of its comfort zone into the city. It needs to diversify such that it is taken seriously for reasons outside hospitality/leisure. This may actually involve placing less emphasis on the Sin City aspect, which makes it difficult.

As you can see, many of the places with the newer or more dynamic businesses are in areas near major universities, established companies and research centers: Boston, SD, Bay Area, Seattle, NOVA, etc. LV is sorely lacking in this regard and it shows. With the state's friendly business climate, though, it should be able to take away more brainpower from CA, which is a terrible place to do business.

Agreed as well.

There are other niche markets that would be ideal for Vegas...SUN-related energies for one...

With the tax incentives, I'm still surprised more businesses haven't opted to start up operations in Nevada...

I'm not 71 yet, but I, too, am enjoying the 24/7 life here. As an example, I was at the MGM Saturday playing poker all afternoon and evening, went home and slept for a few hours, and then went back at 4:00am early yesterday morning and played until 6:00pm last night.

BTW, this leads into my latest "restaurant" review: I didn't want to leave the table for too long, so I just walked over to the Stage Deli next to the Sports Book and ordered a pastrami sandwich and Matzo Ball soup. Although not NY, the food was better than decent, although there was a slight mix-up with my order. It seems that they had a "Soup of the Day" that was a combination of chicken, vegetable, and matzo ball soups, and this is what I was served. Although not what I ordered, it was quite tasty. As for the sandwich, the pastrami was piled high, although not as high as one would find at a deli in NYC. All-in-all, a quite tasty lunch, especially since it was comped. I believe that the sandwich goes for about $8 and the soup for $4.

And although I don't know whether the Stage Deli has any fish on the menu, I can assure you that they are quite prevalent in the poker room.

Speaking of which...I played at Binions once where there was a guy who raised pre-flop, flop, turn, and then would fold on the river...consistently! I mean, just literally throw in his hand before people would even bet on the river.
