We have Windspire vertical axis turbine generators at work. The turbine itself is 20 feet high and 4 feet in diameter and sits on a ten foot high pedestal, for a total height of 30 feet. They generate a maximum of 1.2kW, and I have been told they will never, ever, pay for themselves in their entire useful life. Our company views their purchase as an investment in the future of green energy. Basically, we're just giving money to Windspire so they can develop more efficient products in the future, and oh, by the way, they gave us this primitive wind turbine in exchange for our donation.

That's interesting! But I will admit, I want one.

The big problem is you need to get them high to work well. But getting above 35 feet will require a use permit. The neighbors get notified and the probability of approval rapidly approaches zero.

You might be able to do a crank up with an eggbeater but the crank up is an expensive gizmo. Likely costs as much as the turbine. Does however allow a 70 foot or 80 foot height without the high wind problem. You just lower it if it gets too windy.

"wuthering heights kind of windyness" is kinder and more gentle.

Flew in Sunday. Scariest flight I've ever been on. Hope it calms down by next Monday when I have to leave.
