Congrats. I graduated from Valley High School, and joined the Army from Vegas. I bought my house in Texas and retired here in Texas. I love Texas, but also plan to move back to Vegas this year. After doing some research, I found that although both states have no income tax, the property taxes in Vegas are cheaper. With the home prices back down to affordable levels, I am ready to make my move this year.

HOA....DOH!! Shouldn't be a problem, my smoker isn't one of those monster 50 gallon drum things on wheels. I smoke in a Big Green Egg.

Great point MadMan but unfortunately we don't get the credit. We haven't lived in our current house long enough to qualify.

And as for the birds dropping from the sky already cooked....sounds YUMMY, but no self-respecting TX griller would allow bird on their grill, so sounds like I'll finally get to see what BBQ bird tastes like ;-)

...now only if the house would pack itself life would be perfect!

Hi SGT,

The property taxes are a big reason why we're moving too. And your property insurance should go down too. Our house in Vegas is valued higher than our house in TX yet the property insurance was half the price.

And lots of people will tell you that your car insurance will skyrocket, but depending on what part of TX you're in it may not change much.

We're in Dallas now and the rates are high due to the number of car thefts. Our car insurance in Vegas is $7/month more than Dallas....so that was a pleasant surprise since we were expecting to pay much more.

You hated Arizona... You hated Texas... The only thing you like about LV is the 24 hour booze and "the strip"... You have a "thing" for San Diego, but I guarantee that if you actually lived there, you'd find that you hate that city, too.

I think that it's you, not the cities or states you live in, that are your problem.
Totally agree. What a miserable person this guy must be. I feel better about my life every time he types something on here.

Only kidding of course...Henderson is a pretty nice place. Have a good trip...hope you enjoy sunny Las Vegas!

I hope you have a wonder life in Vegas, I hope to follow suit in the near future, but my move is gonna be more drastic as I'll be coming in from the middle east, that's 2 days traveling by air, and 10 hours difference in time zone ( we are ahead) , I don't know what area I'll be living in yet, and it's gonna be huge change for my kids, but we're all excited about it

That's quite a life changing move stonevalley!

You'll probably love living in Las Vegas. We have many mid-eastern folks living here and when you want a taste of the old country flavors, we have quite a few wonderful mid-eastern restaurants and markets here in the city for you to enjoy along with just about every other cuisine and culture you can think of.

Your kids will quickly adapt to the American culture and they'll do fine here!

Much good luck to you and the family!

Just a recommendation for those driving moving trucks into the city. There was an article/news report not too long ago about many moving trucks getting broken into while the newbies were waiting for houses/condos to close, or to find apartments. Please make sure all your ducks are in a row before you get into the city. If something is holding you up, try to stay outside the city, or in a city along a route to Vegas. Granted, this could happen anywhere, but the way people are moving in and out now, more and more people are aware of this happening and moving trucks parked at a casino parking garage rest assured are probably not empty.
