Well then good, it'll be years before your kid has to find work, so don't worry about it now

Because banevader had to leave Las Vegas to find work and some folks in that situation sometimes don't really want to leave, so they become "doom and gloomers" and try to justify just how bad a place is...that's why they had to leave and why they couldn't "make it" here. Or sometimes, they lost all their money due to gambling, or they foreclosed on their house, or their spouse left them for another, or their spouse cheated on them, or they got in trouble with the law...while they were living here in Las Vegas. So, Las Vegas becomes "the bad place" that nobody cares about, nobody wants to move to or live in.

But these people never fess up these details to give an accurate portrayal of where their negative outlook comes from...

It's the old "Las Vegas done me wrong" song...

Wanted to rep you MomMom but couldn't (wish they would fix that).

Anyway, MomMom is right on the money with her post. As a business owner for the last 2 years, we have seen substantial increases in our revenues with no net gain of clientele. Even in this deep recession with underemployment (U-6 data) close to 20%, I notice many new businesses are opening and hiring (Yard House, SmashBurger, Jilly's, etc.)

Many of my clients both on and off The Strip notice the same thing, people are still coming here because it's still the best bargain for vacations; however, they don't have the discretionary income to buy the souvenirs or spend friviously.

Vegas is not for everyone, everyone needs to determine for themselves if it's the perfect fit.

Thank you anways! I see the Strip quite crowded on the weekends, and especially on the long holiday weekends, stores are packed, malls, restaurants..again, like you stated, they are coming but spending less.

Default cali

while the economy is bad in vegas, its bad elsewhere as well. In california, government is laying off employees by the thousands and they arecutting off services left and right. They are overbudget and the deficit continues to grow. Government employees are also having to take furlough days as well. So dont think Las Vegas is the only place where people are losing jobs.

We don't yasudab, we know the economy stinks all over the place.

It's really only the naysayers who continually harp on the idea that the bad economy is only affecting Las Vegas and only "exists" in Las Vegas and that EVERYWHERE else is doing so much better than Las Vegas with regard to the economy.

Thanks for giving us another point of view from the Cali side..

I think if the economy was that bad in Vegas, it would only take me 15 minutes to cruise down the stip.

At least I think thats what Mapquest or Google says.

Can take damn near an hour.
