Could someone tell me the rules for which your childs school is zoned for. I have been told that I can choose a school as long as it is in a 4 mile distance from the house I rent. Or do I have to send my child to the school CCSD zones my child for. What are my options?

No, you have to send your child to the school you are zoned for, it doesn't matter about distance...I used to live across the street from a school, but had to go 4 miles the other direction to another school...you can choose magnet schools, or I believe if they didn't pass NCLB, then you can choose...as well as with Student Standard Attire, you have the option...

Go to ...
CCSD :: Zoning Information

Enter your address. It tells you which schools.

It is pretty tight. As the kid said some magnets and school rules can make it a little more open but basically unless you have acquired school expert status you should not rent a house if you don't like the schools zoned for it.

he can only go to VoTech if he applied, I believe the application was due in February, maybe he can try next year...You are probably zoned for Chaparral, Del Sol, or Green Valley... It is Clark County School District

That area is zoned for Del Sol. That is in the bottom three or four school in Las Vegas.

To check enter your address at...

CCSD :: Zoning Information

Go over to SEATA (that is now the name of Votech) and ask. Normally it is too late but I don't know what they do with new arrivals. Note that there is a new vocational high school on the west side. I don't know if there will be two or if they are moving.

There will be 2 and they are planning on building 3 more for each part of town, the one in the NW will only be giving transportation within 3 miles, I believe, while VoTech/SEATA provides transportation for the whole valley...They may take him if you call now, but don't stall, but I think all HS offices are closed during July...

Del Sol has a lot of problems...everything else aside, the school has Standard Student Attire, but the teachers don't, there has been many accounts of harassment by teachers to the students, like "Ha Ha, we get to where what we want" and stuff like that and students retaliating against teachers because of it...
