Hi. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a good school of martial arts here that teaches adults and kids and isn't over priced?
I'm in the NW side but willing to travel.
I have experience in Shotokan and wish to try something new and get my kids involved. Any recomendations?

My daughter was in a very small Kung-Fu school but we recently left it (the instructor was pretty flaky, though talented) for this one:

AMERICAN KARATE SCHOOL

Not pricey, very small school, off of Cheyenne & North Jones. Good instrutors, *not* a belt-chasing McDojo. I think they have adult classes but not as often as kids classes.

McDojo, havent heard that in awhile. Anyway, the above is a mesh of styles bujutsu aiki hodo jusu kon whatever. Not that there's anything wrong with it but my suggestion would be to either have your kids study a traditional style, Aikido for example or find someplace that teaches MMA.

I'm sure you realize that most traditional martial arts are 99 percent worthless in any real confrontation and you're sending your kids there more for the values and dicipline. If that's the case you will get more of that with the traditional arts.

Maybe BJJ is a good choice. Effective and the kids can compete in grapling w/out knocking each other senseless.

A few of my friends that are into Muay Thai go to Hard Knocks on Flamingo and Durango. I went once and could not hang.

BTW: American Karate School has a once-a-week Modern Arnis class as well that has kids and adults in it - my ODD just started it, and even though her dad and I have practiced Modern Arnis for about a year and a half now, she's just now getting into it at the new school, and loving it!

There are two Shotokan dojos in Las Vegas. One is a bit overpriced (Welcome to Traditional Karate & Aikido - Las Vegas, Nevada) and this one: Las Vegas School of Shotokan Karate. He is a bit more affordable.
