Well the new casinos that are scheduled to open in the future should absorb those jobs.

Default Work For Retirees?

I wouldn't mind some low-wage, part-time work if I retire to Las Vegas. It would be something simple like cashier, custodial, grocery or warehouse stocker, etc. However, because my pre-retirement career was spent as a computer programmer, I've found it impossible to be even considered for work here in CA. I'm perceived to be over-qualified, even though I'm retired and no longer a computer programmer.

Is Las Vegas any different?

not really, those low wage jobs have hundreds of applicants for a minimal amount of positions.

Dumb down your resume. HS Diploma only and make your past jobs sound like clerical/customer service work.

You did file things and answer the phone. You did talke to customers. And you did graduate from HS. Do whatever you have to do to get the job. And don't even feel bad about it.

And just like me you are overeducated and overqualified. Everything on your resume needs to be true and verifiable. But you do not need to tell the whole story.

I agree. Tailor your resume to the type of position you are seeking. You're not really lying. You're just omitting information.

-Cheers.

Thanks, that's good advice about dumbing down the resume, but it seems like a long shot. Hopefully I can alternately find some volunteer work that would provide some social benefits and a sense of societal contribution. It's hard to find volunteer work here in Palm Springs because it is so competitive with half the population in retirement.
