Middle aged married couple considering a move to Vegas, but concerned about job market horror stories. Is it really so difficult to find a job, or just hard to find well paying jobs?

My job is transferable, but my wife needs to work too. She currently has a $10/hr +tips, 30 hours a week, cooking/service job at a cafe. Would it really be for hard for her to replace that modest income in LV?

She has no criminal history, or bad credit. She would get a good review from her current employer.

It depends. You say you are both middle aged and she works in a service job. It honestly may not be easy getting a decent service job in Las Vegas when you are middle aged...there is age discrimination and "looks" discrimination is Las Vegas, I know that may be a shock to you. I would say make sure you have enough savings to cover her salary for several months and for her to apply apply apply once you arrive in Las Vegas. Once she gets her foot in the door somewhere she will be good to go, it's just the matter of getting the foot in the door.

I know others will ask and I'm also curious...why Las Vegas? As a newer resident to Las Vegas with what I know now I would rethink my decision to move here...just saying.

If all she is expecting is @ $10 per hour, part time, and no benefits, she should do fine here.n Will just take some time to find something.

She probably finds something quickly, especially if she is willing to deal with hassle of working at two places. Getting $10-12 per hour is not too difficult with experience, it's tough to get $15-30. Qualified people getting above that isnt too hard either. Lots of people move to Vegas hoping to get 30-40k a year as that seems to be enough for them to make it so you see a lot of competition at that level and also see many settle on a job there even if they made 25-50% more elsewhere
