Hello,
Well me and my girlfriend took the plunge and drove cross country from mass to vegas last week. And yes we were aware of the terrible economic situation but all of my family is out this way now. We have been searching high and low in person and on the internet for jobs. I have experience in retail and social services and she has a strong history in retail and retail management.
I can't seem to get a single call back from anyone and she has only got a couple calls which led to nothing. I realize it's only been a week but is there a secret to landing interviews out here that i'm missing? should I act more desperate on applications? leave out college on resume? any and all help is much appreciated.

I left my college degrees off my resume. I had much better luck. I think employers are very leery of hiring people with degrees because they are sure you won't stick around or will be looking for something better..... And they are probably right. I've also found that you won't hear anything from prospective employers unless they want to hire you.

I posted about seasonal jobs available at the outlet mall in Primm. The drive is a bit much but if you could both get jobs there working similar hours it wouldn't be too bad. Anything you pick up in retail right now is probably seasonal. No matter what they tell you.

the problem now is that the seasonal jobs have been filled... you can always drive a cab if you know the area and have a clean driving record.

There's a lot of telemarketing rooms in Vegas: timeshares, HGH, Grants, etc. Just stay away from the grant scams. Ads all over craigslist. You shouldnt have any problem getting hired.

Default Las Vegas Jobs

I lucked out here getting a job in Las Vegas. They have a lot of retail, restaurant, hotel, and customer service positions in the Las Vegas and Henderson areas. Good luck!

This has been posted before, but based on my wife's experiences, make sure you have a Nevada ID, local address and local phone #.
