I'm not a local....but have been visiting LV regularly for about 25 years. Always stayed on the strip without a car so that's all I knew. Past few times we rented a car and went to several "outlying" casinos - Green Valley Ranch, South Point, Sunset Station, etc. Don't know why we didn't do it before now. The strip is nice, but the other areas are just as nice with much less hassle. And I think the odds are better too.

Now, a few times a year for a show or shopping.

WAY BACK...MANY YEARS AGO...used to go every single weekend to "cruise" up and down the strip. Do teenagers still do that now days?

No, the cops will now quickly ticket and/or arrest them for curfew. Also, the traffic is so horrendous it would be pointless.

Okey Dokie, not to be rude, but there is a whole lot more to Las Vegas and surrounding areas than casinos. Not only is there a lot of non casino related activity throughout the Valley, we are within a relatively short drive of some of the most spectacular places in the country. Close to home is Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, Lake Mojave, Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, Tule Springs and the Desert National Wildlife Refuge, and much, much more. A little further out is Death Valley NP, Pahranagat Lake, Christmas Tree Pass, Tuacahn Amphitheatre, St. George, UT. Zion National Park, The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Capital Reef NP, The Grand Staircase-Escalante Nat Mon, Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Nat Rec Area, Bryan Head Ski Resort, ...it goes on and on. That's why we live here...and we have the Strip besides.

And, 4-5 miles north of Fremont, at Las Vegas Blvd/Pecos, let's not overlook an opportunity for our tourists to add some local color to their trip, the weekend Swap Meet at Broadacre's where they can brush shoulders with bargain-hunting, penny-pinching locals.

Does going to Fry's count? Fry's is so far from The Lakes that I try to combine a trip to Fry's with lunch at a strip restaurant or something similar. I'd really like to see a couple more Fry's in LAS, maybe one in Green Valley and another in the Northwest.

Good luck on that. We only had 2 in Phoenix, which is over twice the size of Vegas. Lucky for me, Frys electronics is only a half mile away from my job. I also shop there often.

Santa Clara County has fewer people than Clark County, and we've got four Fry's: Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Campbell. Throw in Fremont and that would be five Fry's for a population about the same as Clark County. I imagine another store is probably not going to happen given the current economic climate, but I wonder if they were thinking about it before things turned to crap.

Next time skip on over across the street to Town Square for lunch. They have several pretty good restaurants. We like Brio Tuscan Grill. Pretty good for a chain. Dining - Restaurants (http://www.townsquarelasvegas.com/shopping-dining-a-entertainment/dining.html - broken link)

Buzz, I understand what you're saying.....I was just talking about on strip vs. off strip gambling.
