My husband and I will be out for our annual trip the week of 7 December. Any ideas of "holiday" or "Christmas" things to do or check out? We normally catch a show or two when we are out but we thought we might find some more holiday-type activities that are interesting. We have a timeshare at the Marriott and a car, so we can pretty much come & go as we please.

Out of curiousity, is that a bad time to try and get a day trip to the Canyon? Usually we are here earlier in the year when it is just too darned hot to head that way!

Thanks!

Drive out to Ethel M's chocolate factory and cactus garden. It's nicely decorated and all lit up during the holidays.

Here are a few ideas: Las Vegas Christmas - Christmas Lights in Las Vegas

The Springs Preserve Winter Lights Festival makes for a fun evening if you are a patient person and don't mind just chillin', because the lines can be long, but everyone is in a good mood. (Would it kill them to call it a CHRISTMAS light festival?). Winter Lights at the Springs Preserve (http://www.springspreserve.org/html/visit_events_winterlights.html - broken link)

Looks like you will have missed the Annual Parade of Lights on Lake Mead Dec 5 but others might be interested. Events in Boulder City, Nevada

The Lakes has an all day Festival of Lights that ends with the boat parade.
The Lakes Festival of Lights

Make sure you bring warm clothes because at that time it is usually pretty cold at night. For the outdoors stuff at night we usually bundle up well, in long johns, heavy jackets, hats, and gloves.

Caesars Forum Shops, The Fashion Show Mall, and the Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood are good places to be at that time too.

My personal Holiday Season favorites:
Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Gardens
Springs Preserve
Holiday events at Town Square (www.townsquarelasvegas.com)
Holiday concerts at UNLV Performing Arts Center (pac.unlv.edu)
Floating Ice Rink at Lake Las Vegas (Ice rink floats at MonteLago Village in Las Vegas)

It would be a great time to visit Red Rock Canyon, too. But very chilly.

If you are from someplace that doesn't get snow, you might enjoy driving up to the Lodge on Mt. Charleston for drinks, or a meal, and just play in the snow. The Lodge used to have sleighrides too; I assume they still do. That's at Kyle Canyon. If youi ski go a little further to Lee Canyon and do some skiing. Wear a Santa suit.

You asked about The Grand Canyon...at least I'm guessing when you said "the canyon" that's what you meant. That's not a day trip. It's at least an overnighter. Unless you fly. There are Grand Canyon tour flights all day everyday. If you were talking about Zion Canyon National Park, which is one of the most beautiful Nat'l Parks in the country, that can be done in a day. Red Rock Canyon is only a few miles out of town. You didn't say how long you would be here.

You may be too late for the NFR, but here are some sites you can check for tickets. national finals rodeo tickets - Google Search

How is the weather in Pitssburgh? I'm from about 100 miles south of there. Will you be going down to Morgantown for the Backyard Brawl the day after Turkey Day? Wish I could go.
