Why would you ask your roofer? Their knowledge of RE is generally limited to ...well...roofs.

Summerlin is in the west part of the Valley in the City of Las Vegas or in the County of Clark. It is not in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas has some rough areas (As is true of the City of Las Vegas and the County of Clark). The general rule is stay west of 15 and north of Craig.

Because your roofer is ignorant and misinformed.

Granted, there are some areas in the old Northtown area that have always been and still are...bad. It's quite obvious once you see it, you'll know you don't like that area.

But North Las Vegas has some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the valley, with lush parks, shopping centers, conveniences.

Your "intelligent" roofer is talking about the bad neighborhoods, and you wouldn't choose to buy a home near there anyway. Roofer dude has no clue and probably doesn't know that so many wonderful and safe, clean neighborhoods and areas now exist in beautiful North Las Vegas!

He has a business in the area, you would think he would know.
I want to buy a house in that area one that has clerestory windows. Post and Beam Architecuture etc. Only ones I am finding are in the north.

It must be because those clay pots that they use for shingles deteriorate faster, due to the nothern exposure.

Roofers know about construction materials and neighborhoods. Take all advice with a grain of salt. Several of the NLV touts are more upside down on their homes than the GDP of many African nations.

Would you trust a realtor to roof your house, too?

Sorry. Nobody here participating owns property in NLV. The only regular who does is PinkString. I think 007 another active RE Agent lives in NLV but is not active in this thread.

I am an RE Agent but I don't really care whether you buy in NLV or the NW or Henderson.

There are however some unusually good buys in nice NLV and they should be touted...

I agree with your roofer in general. There are some new areas of NLV north of Ann Road and west of Commerce that are so far OK, but most of NLV is crap. I lived within two blocks of NLV in three different homes over the last 42 years, but I wouldn't do it again if you held a gun to my head. It was bad 42 years ago and it is bad today. I've observed over the years that "nice" neighborhoods in NLV go south much faster than the rest of the city. Just because they are building out in the north part of the valley doesn't make up for the largest part of NLV which is ghetto, almost ghetto, or will become ghetto eventually. My daughter lives near Camino Al Norte in a very nice home in a very nice neighborhood, but I worry that it was a mistake to buy there.
