i just went through this in nevada.. not being able to pay the mortgage, take the kids to school, etc does not get you excused..

also mileage is paid to those who commute from far distances, if i remember it was 60 miles each way...

and yes if you don't show, you will be in contempt and can be fined or jailed....

only reason i got out was that i had a legitimate bias in the particular case.

I never said i was too good for jury duty.

Their are plenty of people who receive pay from their employers to serve jury duty or are on social security, pensions, etc (incl public employees).

Many people live paycheck to paycheck & the courts need to realize that & quit being pricks.

Jail time max is 10 days & fines up to 2k dollars.

The chances of me being chosen to serve jury duty are slim to none.

Lets say i do get chosen & am on the jury for 2 weeks. Thats only $150.00 (15.00 day x 10 days) + milage.

Try paying your rent/mortgage, bills, etc with that measly amount. We have more then enough homeless people in the nation as it is.

Why add to it ?

these are slave wages compared to all the other people in the courtroom's pay to 'work' that day. it is less than minimum wage.

i find that repugnant.

To get out of jury duty you only have to look like someone they wouldn't want to pick.

I went for jury duty one time and there was a guy wearing a T-shirt with a machine gun on the front and the words "you want justice, I'll show you justice."

He was excused right away.

There are lots of things you can do while waiting, carry a large book that causes concern. Something like "Tim McVey Was Framed," "Hitler was a Saint," "UFOs are Real," "How to Plan the Apocalypse." Perhaps a Qu'ran and ask about prayer breaks.

Pretend to fall asleep, then say you will continue to work nights during jury duty.

Go to court smelling bad or totally doused with aftershave.

Wear some bizarre clothes. Wild silk shirt, open to the waist with lots of gold chains and perhaps some eye liner and blush.

Do some sort or repeditive motion that calls attention to yourself. Nod, constantly change positions, keep rubbing your head and shrugging your shoulders, blink, sigh loudly. If they ask say it is a habit you have been unsuccessful at breaking, like a tic. They can't have someone on the jury that distracts from the testimony.

Im sure the judges have seen it all & know if someone is lying or not. I do have a health problem but i gotta talk to my doctor first & see what he says.

if you really want to deprive yourself of sending someone to the chair for a parking violation just tell them "Of COURSE Ive made up my mind... if he was arrested he MUST be guilty."

A neighbor told me she said that. She did not get excused.

If the courts would pay a decent wage then im sure very few would try to get out of serving.

Most of the excuses on that site would not work in Nevada. One of the judge's here said that if someone cannot fulfill their duty to serve on a jury, then they will have to do community service. Dorks.

And jfk, who care's if someone resurrects a 2-3 year old thread? I may just revive a 5 year old thread for the heck of it. (if i can find one that is)

How To Get Out Of Jury Duty Summons - 16 Fool-Proof Excuses. How To Get Out Of Jury Duty Summons - 16 Fool-Proof Excuses : My Two Dollars
You do realize that jury DUTY is a civic duty, right? Goes along with our freedoms & all that good stuff. Your post sounds like a lot of moaning; you realize the wage they pay comes out of tax dollars? I thought Kalifornia was broke. I don't like it any more than you do as I've been summoned for jury duty this month, so I'll do what I need to appease the court. Hopefully I won't be stuck there a long time, but I'll do my duty.

BTW, according to what they sent me, Nevada does NOT compensate mileage unless you're coming from extremely far away. My summons says 'mileage is reimbursed at 36.5 cents a mile for each mile traveled if the residence is 30 miles or more from the place of travel.' Since I'm within 15 miles, no mileage for me. Also, 'Each person summoned to report is entitled to a fee of $40.00 for each day after the second day of jury selection ...' So, it sounds like I could show up for two days & get nothing. Be thankful you're getting something & being reimbursed mileage - it's not the court's fault if you bought a vehicle that gets poor mileage.

Oh, that web site/page is a complete hack job, sounds like somebody wrote it up while sitting on the 'throne' then published it with a big disclaimer on the bottom of the article. Yeah, I'm gonna tell them "I'm a felon." Riggght.
