Some of your numbers would be in doubt. TN is famous for low taxes...but Nevada is famous for lower taxes yet. I believe Nevada is 49th and TN 43rd. So you lose a little on Taxes. This is total state and local burden from the Tax Foundation.

The NY Times CofLiving calculator says Nashville is 5.5% cheaper but pay 9.6% less. So you lose a litte overall by a move there.

Car plates: EXTREMELY MORE here in Vegas. It was ~$60/yr for plates. Here I pay based on the value of the car. First year when my car was new it was ~$440- I think. I was stunned when I moved here with a 3yo car and it was ~$290! No wonder people register their cars some where else. The lady at the DMV said it is ONLY $440. Are you kidding me? ONLY? She said if I had a towncar it would have been more like $800! Ridiculous!
Sounds similar to here in georgia. I just paid for my tags last month..Here is what my receipt said for one car (a 2005 economy class)

Ad Valorem Tax: 148.29
Tag Fee: 20.00
Convenience Fee: 5.00
Concession Fee: 5.00
Use Fee: 2.00
Georgia Clean Air Fee: 20.00
Receipt Fee: 0.25

I guess if they use the word fee it would not sound like they are overtaxing us. There are quite a few states that charge tag fees based on value. We just try and budget for it a few months prior.
