I am looking at quite a few houses in the area that encompasses the sides of 5th St., Centennial, Decatur and Cheyenne. Can you tell me if this is a decent area? I have limited funds to spend on a house, and need to buy so I have a secure payment every month for housing. I can not afford to go above $80,000. for a home, and have been told I will just get a junk heap with broken cars in the yard, but I have seen a lot of homes on realtor.com and from a real estate agent, and even driving down the street on googlemaps, the neighborhoods look decent and clean. Most of the houses are less than 10 years old.

Any comments on the neighborhood would be much appreciated. Do most houses in these neighborhoods have HOA??????

Thanks for your time!

I agree. You want to stay away from the streets with 1 letter or number in it. I just stay away from N. Las Vegas as a whole. Good luck tho with whatever you choose. I know there is plenty to pick out there.

again incorrect, north las vegas as a whole is just like any other neighborhood.. some of the nicest neighborhoods are there (aliante, etc)

the area to avoid completely is NORTHTOWN.

Maybe it's time for someone to do a Google Maps mashup and color-code the good and bad neighborhoods in the valley. 'Course that might eliminate half the threads here.

To be redone by the end of the year.

Crime in Las Vegas

Still gives a reasonable view. Stay in the green or yellow unless you know the local area...

To the OP - Did you really need 15 question marks in the thread title?

IrishTiltedKilt, how about looking at Condo's and Townhomes as well as homes.. There are plenty of townhomes in my neighborhood and condo's just down the road a bit at Decatur/215, selling quite cheap these days. They have yards, garages, a community pool. And of course the dreaded HOA's, but they also protect you, not just aggravate you.
