Anyone here have a saltwater aquaruim. Are prices for supplies higher or lower than where you moved from.

I'm toying with the Idea of taking my 135g reef setup with me from SoCal to Vegas. I already have a place, but it's still going to be a major PITA hauling everything out there.

Is there a decent selection of stores in Vegas?

A very lovely...but expensive...hobby. Just curious...do you guys have to have backup power systems in case the electric goes out for an extended period. Does homeowners insurance cover anything involved with a salt water tank...as the equipment and the fish can be quite expensive?

I used to have a salt tank and pretty much your options were Tropicana Aquariums or ATM (2 locations). There used to be a store in Henderson too off I-215 and Gibson, but they closed awhile ago.

I've found the prices to be much higher here compared to so cal. When I first established my tank I drove down to so cal to buy sand and live rock since it was so much more expensive here. I've found live rock here to be around $8/pound last time I looked and it was all smaller pieces with pretty much no life on it. I pretty much always bought my livestock over the net since the selection locally is pretty bad. I couldn't even find a Maroon Clown locally.

Jeff, The rock at Blue Reef has lots of color and only $5.99lb. They also carry live sand and all the supplies. Blue Reef Aquatics has a larger selection of corals and Inverts than most of the stores in California. They have 2 x 8ft long and 4ft wide tanks loaded with coral, hundreds of gallons of tanks filled with fish and more. You should check this place out! and start another reef. Support your local stores!
