My fiance and I are close in age to you and your wife. We moved here in May and recently bought a house in Green Valley Ranch.

As someone who seems to have similar taste to yourself, I would urge you to look at Green Valley Ranch rather than Anthem. My reasons are this:
*Better schools - look up olecapt's school ratings. Check out Vanderburg Elementary school. As someone who might have a kid in elementary school soon, this one is one of the best in the valley.. you should look into it.
*Awesome parks, amenities, etc
*Much more convenient to the highway, the movie theater, restaurants, the airport, you name it.. Anthem is such a huge pain to get to!

I considered Anthem for about 15 minutes.. then I drove down to a friend's place in Anthem. It was such a pain to get to! I love the location of GV Ranch, and the school district is incredible (Vanderburg-Miller-Coronado). Something to consider!

I agree with Vegaschick, I would rather live in the 215/GV area than Anthem.. much better choice.

Good to see another North Bay person here, a rep for you. . I'm originally from Santa Rosa. I lived there until I was 13, then lived in Napa for 27 years. At the end of this May it'll be four years that I've lived in Vegas. I was last there in September of 2k7. What really cheeses me is that the week after I was in Santa Rosa, my favorite band, Jethro Tull, played there! Argh!!!

My husband was raised in southern California, we moved out of Vegas (Summerlin) due in part to high crime. Since you don't have kids yet, I would try it out since you seem excited about the opportunity. There are certainly major cons to raising children in this city, more so than the average city IMO, yet your family may be able to overlook them. Yes, it is very hot.. in fact, one summer a section of the interior of my new car literally melted off!

Nothing's wrong with the South Bay. I like San Jose and the area very much. I lived almost 40 years in the North Bay, so it's still part of me. I'll try to rep you, but I'm not promising the board will let me do it.

The weather.....

My wife and I both grew up in Florida. The desert is so much better. My wife had never been west of the rockies when we moved here.We came in July! As we came across the 15 from Utah the temperature gauge in the car kept rising. She looked over at me with that look.......I said it can't get any hotter! That may the trick. It takes just one summer to get used to it. The next year it's not that bad. You just adjust the way you live. Wash your car early in the morning etc.

I have lived here for close to ten years. mod cut: soliciting removed

Crime can be anywhere in these trying times. But I don't think Vegas is any different than any other 2 million plus size city in the US. I wouldn't let let that scare you. Please let me know if we can help in your home search. My wife and I are both real estate agents and are not a high pressure. I get a lot of satisfaction in finding the right home for my clients. mod cut: soliciting removed
