Well i went to the job fair today. I could not believe the amount of people in line... it strung around the whole casino floor (i was there at 1130)..Thank goodness, i had a vip pass and i went right in front of all of them and right in....I did get to talk to alot of companies, (some worthless, lots of schools there) and managed to get 2 more interviews this week.
If you saw this advertisement for the job fair on the net, it said to "dress for success"... I could not believe the amount of people in jeans/tshirt, dirty etc.. Some brought their kids in a stroller.... Several in front of me did not even have their resumes or even a pen for that matter.
Rule of thumb, if you want the part, you have to portray the part..especially in this economy.

sorry, these were just my thoughts...

Any insight on Tahiti Village timeshares? Several people in front were handing in resumes and the woman was recommending sales (the guys in the hotels i think)... when it was my turn, she saw the experience and the real estate license.. and pulled me aside for about 10 minutes... Wants me to be on the inside with the management... No cold sales. Probably wants me to sell upgrades to the current owners... Any thoughts on this... I'm not looking to get rich here, just looking for the right position... Would love to be loss prevention at a casino but so far, i don't have an in..

I didn't go. I managed to find a job doing telephone surveys. Not the best job in the world, but it pays $9 per hour, no benefits. It's very flexible, which works for me right now. You can work every day, if you want to. I start with the orientation tomorrow, which takes four to five hours. They'll hire anyone, as long as you're at least 18, and have a pulse. They did have me read a script, and write down 12 words that she read, to check my spelling. Needless to say, I got 100% on both tests.

I'll let you guys know how it goes, wish me luck!

Thanks. Even though you can work everyday, you might not be able to there. I need to call in on the morning of each day that I want to work, and beat out the other people calling in to work that day. Even if you get on, if you don't take at least three surveys an hour, you get sent home for that day. Also, you never get angry with the people that you call, even if the suggest that your lineage contains farm animals. I plan on doing this until I get my money from the case in California, then look for something more steady, with benefits.

both my parents worked for tahiti village, although they didn't sell the timeshares directly because they don't have real estate licenses, they are both glad they are out of there, my mom worked in the call center for mortgages and minivacs and my dad was a manager in the field on the strip, of course very different from the sales department but it seemed like a company that treated everyone like ****...a lot of their friends also left as well, some even said that they'd rather take unemployment than work there...

And some of them come on here complaining because no one in Las Vegas will hire them...oh wait...they need "to know someone" to get a job...

Thank you for observing that, airics, and letting us know what goes on in these job fairs...and much good luck to you as well.

I'd listen to the kewlkid, I know someone (an older gal) who worked in the call center of Tahiti Village a while ago (to earn some spending cash) and she said it was terrible. She was treated like a prisoner! I'd stay away from there as far as obtaining a job...

Good luck Aqua in your job!

i was supposed to have an interview with AppleOne today at 1030 for a title person at the dmv (perfect fit - since i am a car dealer) but they called about an hour ago saying there was a job freeze and the position was no longer available.. actually they were nasty about it...

AppleOne is an employment agency if I remember correctly?

There was no reason for them to be nasty...

I wouldn't think any of the state agencies would be hiring at this time and with our budget getting so tight , so keep that in mind if you are seeking a state/city type position.

Keep looking, you'll get something!

You job seekers should keep this site in mind and check it daily:

Employment Security Division Job Seeker Services

A lot of you probably would benefit by contacting the Career Enhancement Program (CEP).

These are State jobs posted within the last seven days:

https://nvapps.state.nv.us/NEATS/Rec...ewJobsHome.aep

Jobs like Unemployment Insurance Rep (seen here below) are not funded out the general state funds, they are 100% federally funded. When there is a freeze, or lay offs of State employees, etc., they usually include ESD for political spin purposes, but right now I think they should be hiring with all the unemployed people to service.

BTW, I don't know what AppleOne would have to do with hiring at the DMV. I hope they aren't asking you to pay them for job information that is posted for free every day at State Personnel in the Sawyer Building on Washington and LV BLVD N. Or it may only be on the internet now, but they might now have a computer there for anyone looking for a State job. It's been a while since I had to go there for anything.

Here's a tip for everyone. If someone asks you for money up front to help you find a job, RUN, DON'T WALK, to the nearest exit. They are crooks...always. The next scam, but not quite as bad, is the practice of taking part of your paycheck if and when they find you a job. You don't have to run from them, just politely leave. Legitimate head hunters should charge the employer for finding you, not charge you for doing something you could have done for yourself. In fact, most of them will have you doing the work of searching for the job anyway, and then they take the credit.

I think that the State is paperless and only take apps electronically now, but if I'm wrong, here is a tip we always gave people for when they were applying for State for jobs. Download, or pick up a paper application at either JobConnect, or State Personnel. Fill in the parts that don't change; e.g., leave off the job title and number, and any other info that might vary. Then make copies of it. Then when a job comes up that you want to apply for, just fill in the job title and number and drop it off at State Personnel. I believe this works at the County and the various cities too.

That is probably moot because I believe that all you do now is set up an account with all the pertinent info, then every time you apply, that info is already there. You should be able to apply for as many jobs as you like. The theory these days is if you can't use a computer to apply for the job, they can't use you.

Another tip that is very important right now if you are out of work: Buy the latest version of "What Color is My Parachute" at any book store. It is THE BIBLE for all those looking for work.
