I have tipped dropping off and picking up. Sometimes if I know it will be the same valet person, then I only tip at pick up. If it seems obvious that I will not encounter the same person both times, I tip each. I tip more the hotter it is outside. $2 is my base, even if you stink.

Cute, but wrong.

The word "TIPS" is not now, and has never been, an acronym for "to insure prompt service."

Why should I care where they park my car? The Valet has to do the running.

The only time I've heard of tipping before was a travel agent friend of mine would give half the tip upfront to the room stewards on a cruise.

Coming from a former valet, no one really tips on the way, but we we'll take it. If you want special attention(ie spot up front, wipe down the rims etc.) then you either have to tip(well) up front, or be a regular who we know tips well. We're not gonna take our chances on some cheap ass wanting his 88 buick parked up front if he's gonna tip $2 on the way out. In short, $3 on the way out is standard, anything less is insulting to the effort that we put in to run our ass off getting your precious vehicle back promptly and in good condition.

Lastly, don't be that guy that wads up a 1 dollar bill to make it seem more than it is ya jackass. We remember bad tippers just as well as good tippers so don't expect your bucket to be pulled up quicker than Uncle Moneybags' Benz when he tips a crispy 20 each time and you give me a 1 that looks like its been wadded up in your sock all day

I hardly use valet parking, but when I do, I usually tip around 2-3 bucks. If I win it big, (which I havent) Id have no problem tipping more.

Before we moved and my husband was commuting between LV and San Diego, he got to know the car valets at the airport really well. He knew that he could always valet his car even if the lot was full and cordoned off. They would always usher him through and sometime in front of others that were waiting. Vegas is def a service base industry and when you "tip" well and consistently it gets remembered. I guess that would be the difference between being a local vs. visitor.

a few years back, I was coming from out of the area to catch a flight for a 17 day trip. Went to Station Casinos and gave the guy a 10, told him the deal, and said I'll give you 10 more in 17 days. He was thrilled, and said they had people who left their cars there for a lot longer than that. I actually gave him a roll of quarters. It was Summer, and he seemed to be very pleased. Otherwise it's going to be 1 Dollar coming out, and if you all don't start puttiong the seat back where it was it's going to be zilcho, because it kills my back to get in the car, where the seat has been adjusted for a midget.

I have always tipped $1 (folded into quarter size), and a smile. It's not a difficult job.

I'm not here to make the valet rich. Some of these monkeys are making $75K++ parking cars!!
What a great country. I love it when some smug service industry prick complains about "only" a 20% tip, or "only $2" for a car. I guess that's not enough to support your coke habit. Guess what? Any trained monkey can, and will do your job for less - and with a big smile!

Granted, there are certain times when *effort is expended* and a large tip is appropriate. And there are (very) rare instances of doormen or valets who bring a certain something, which makes them very valuable. There is a doorman at Christie's auction house in NY who gets a salary of over $100K. (probably another $100k in tips). Probably the highest paid doorman in the US. All this guy does is open the damn door, and hail a cab for you, with the biggest, happiest smile you've ever seen. He puts people in a good mood the moment they walk in the door. So if they end up bidding a few extra million for a painting, this guy's salary is taken care of.

A good attitude goes a long way.
