Solifugae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is actually what we have, they are no where near the size of the ones in Iraq. But they have been here. In our industry we call them Sun Spiders or Whip Scorpions, not Camel Spiders.

They are not that bad, they say most of them can not even break the skin if they bite, due to their jaw not being strong enough. I have encountered a couple, and I just don't like them because they look nasty. The biggest one I saw was the size of a quarter, but they do run very fast.

I'm not afraid of being bitten, it's the creepiness! And if they run fast, even worse!

I was married to a guy who did pest control for like 8 years, and the stories he would tell...UGH. Of course, we don't have the scary stuff here that is found in the desert.

I am a Las Vegas native, and I remember when the brown recluse bites became an issue. I read all comments, and I can tell you I have seen the aftermath of the tissue damage done from those bites. . . Here, locally, bit, and treated. I pay monthly for a termination service, because spiders are so prevalent. I regularly kill black widows and wolf spiders, but with 1.15 acres, a horse, chickens trees, and o plenty of hiding spaces, I come across my fair share of recluse when in doing my yard work. One of my friends was putting mail in a mailbox, when he got bit, permanent skin discoloration, and loss of nerve tissue happened before he could get to the hospital.
