Hi everyone. I'm wanting to relocate to north Las Veags this summer. Right now I'm in central Illinois and commuting back and forth to Las Veags to find a place to live is highly expensive and almost impossible for me. I have friends who live out there and would like to be near them as well as expand my graphic design career in the big city. I visited Las Vegas over Martin Luther King day and was pretty impressed with the scenery and people in general. However I'm wondering how to go about finding a place to live while I'm here in Illinois. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about finding a place via long distance? Has anyone ever tried to do this before? This is totally new to me! I really want this to work out. Las Vegas has got so much more to offer than the Champaign-Urbana area. My 13 year old son will be going with me as well. So if ANYONE has any advice on schools, relocating tips, how-abouts to finding a place while here in Illinois or anything else PLEASE fill me in. Thank you!

There are realtors on this board that can help you find places to live.

However, my advice to you would be to line up an apartment in an area of town you want to live in or are interested in. You should stay in the apartment at least 3-6 months so you get a feel for the city, the areas, the heat of the summer, etc. That way you can make a decision on where you want to buy and it won't be rushed on some weekend trip. You will be able to take your time in choosing where to make your most valuable investment.

As for schools, be very selective and picky. There are many bad schools in the city and very few good ones. Go to greatschools.com to do your research on how good the schools are before selecting what area to move to. Personally I think the best areas are Green Valley and Summerlin. There is also some nice areas in the far northwest, but be selective and do your homework.

Default First...

First do you really need to be in North Las Vegas or the north of Las Vegas or what?

If you are simply working in some area say where...then we know where you can commute easily from...

Helps to figure out where to send you. Thirteen year olds complicate things. You need to manuever around by middle school rather than simply where it would be convenient to live.

Areas around Rainbow and Sahara can offer an easy commute to NLV, as well as areas in the "new" part of NLV. I think some great areas are the Central West, by Rainbow and Spring Mountain/Durango and Flamingo, or Midtown/SE (Area bordered by Maryland Parkway, Desert Inn, Sandhill, and Russell). Another great area is along Lake Mead west of Rainbow.

Hi olecapt. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my posting. Ummm as for the 13 year old, he's gotta come with me. LOL! And no I don't have to be in north lv. i would just like a nice neighborhood for my son and I to live. And yes, I do have to check on the school systems. That's what I'm going to do now. Thank you so much!

Red face Hmmm...

I had an orignal message about moving to Las Vegas. It was moved. Does anyone who's been on here a while know why postings might be moved and if so where are they moved to? That way I can see if anyone has replied to my original message. Thank you.

I believe it was moved from Nevada to Las Vegas.

If you would like suggestions on where to live give us an idea of where you need to be...ie work or whatever. There are huge choices...need something to narrow it down. If neither money or location are a problem go to Summerlin or Green Valley. Both are safe and have reasonable schools. Both have apartments, condos and homes for rent.
