My youngest little brother was offered 3 great career opportunities as a software and hardware engineer???? (i.e. a computer geek) (i am very proud of him, since i only have a grade12 GED)
One of these offers was in Seattle witch he has refuse, the 2 others are in San Francisco and Las Vegas.
He went to San Francisco and liked it but the severe water shortage there scared him away from that offer.
So he his looking at Vegas instead witch is offering him the moon almost to relocate and take the job.
However if one is concern about the water shortage in Marin county (witch is beyond severe) isn't the Vegas situation just as bad if not worst?.
I have red in different places conflicting reports on the severity of the drought but everyone agrees that there is one though, the discourse is over the severity.
Therefore i thought the best place to get the last word on this situation in order to stand in front of my little brother and partake to him my infinite knowledge and wisdom is to get it as usual from good old C.D. where realestate and relocation matters are concern.
Therefore how severe is the drought for you good people in Clark County and how are you coping with this nightmare?
In another thread called " Good Neighborhood to live Las Vegas"
a member named Arentol posted a very informative recommendations as to where are the best place to live.He/she gave some good pointers as a 25+yr resident of Las Vegas where Summerlin (west/northwest) was recommended.I google mapped it but i'm not truly sure what are the exact boundaries of that area. Can someone be kind enough to point out the exact perimeters of Sumerlin(west/northwest)?.
Finally i red that the "Village meat & wine" is Vegas best Butcher(feel free to contradict this finding)but i couldn't find where in Vegas do you find the best fish or seafood store(s),can you help?
thank you.

Computer related jobs in Seattle and San Francisco pay better than Las Vegas. If it were me, i'd pick San Francisco first, Seattle second and Las Vegas last.
I like Las Vegas..the pay isn't the greatest in some fields though. Good luck.

Agreed, being in the IT field myself I would encourage him to seek out the job in SF

You will earn more in San Francisco but home prices will be more then triple that of Vegas.

You need to do some homework and see what the pay is in both places and look at comparable homes in both places.

All else being equal your better choice is which place leaves you with the most money from your paycheck after paying all the bills.

Places like San francisco an uneducated broom sweeper can earn $60K but he cant afford to rent a one bedroom apartment with that money.

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. The drought in California this year isn't any worse than in past years, and nothing like what occurred in the mid-to-late 70's. Marin and San Francisco don't have particularly serious water shortages at the moment - and are not even under mandatory rationing, that I am aware of.

So what's the real reason he didn't pick San Francisco?

I agree. That stood out like a sore thumb. Maybe he didn't like the freaks. But San Fran is going to be way more expensive. Don't know about Seattle but lots of people can't stand all the rain and gloom. As was said, Las Vegas is likely to be the more affordable without all the BS you put up with in the other two places. If there is a water shortage in Las Vegas I've never noticed it and I've been wasting Lake Mead water for 44 years. Yes there has been a drought. Droughts are cyclical. The signs are that it may be over. As far as water, it is more a matter of who controls it and where it is located. I heard a scientist say that there will never be any more or less water on this planet than there ever was. Keeping it unpolluted and fairly distributed is the problem. Las Vegas has been given permission to pump lots of water from northern Nevada and may get even more. Notice that no one on the water authority or various city and county commissions have ever mentioned stopping the unbridled growth or even slowing it. That would be an absolute necessity if there was no more water to go around.

There are lots of places to buy meat and seafood, but this is the desert and seafood is not big here. I don't buy much of either but have found good seafood at Whole Foods Market, and like the meat at Larry's. If good seafood is a consideration on where to take the job, I'd go to Seattle. SF has great seafood but who could live there?

I think the best area for IT is Santa Clara Valley, or San Jose metro area. The home prices are high, but a little cheaper than SF. The only problem is heavy commute traffic going to work and back. They have a drought in Northern California that is pretty bad, they depend on the sierra snow pack for most of the water they get. The Bay Area alone has about 9 million people in the 9 bay area counties. Las Vegas might be in a drought also, but it only has to worry about 2 million people.

i'd argue that there isn't an exact perimeter of summerlin, as it isn't some exact shape.

the north end is around cheyenne avenue
the south end is between tropicana and russel road
summerlin parkway is west off of the 95, and kinda sorta runs east west through summerlin
hualapai way and town center road run north south and, kinda sorta through the middle of summerlin

here's my google map, the blue area on the left is pretty much summerlin:
