Send your kid to private school. We just left Vegas because the schools are ranked the worst. They teach the test not the actual Curriculum.

I put my son into Private School and he received a good education but it costs me $8000 for the year....money well spent though.

From speaking with fellow friends who are teachers...there biggest complaint is no money for schools, teachers come for the experience then leave and a lot of schools are still using subs to teach the classes.

Pull up greatschools.com they will tell you the good from the bad in Las Vegas. Personally I did alot of research and moved to a place in the Bartlett Elementary school district (in Henderson). That school is awesome--my daughter loved it and every parent Ive spoken with agrees!
She's entering junior high next year and attending Greenspun which is another highly rated school. Do your research!!

That is true in housing, but there is a lot of construction work on the strip hotels. The new ones, and the old ones adding towers.

If you search through this forum you will find more info than you would ever want about the schools here. There are excellent schools here as well as the bottom of the barrel. I am sure if you sift through the other posts you will get the answers to your questions.

I grew up here and I've been a cop here for the last 10 years. The schools here are pretty bad now. Nevada is ranked 48 out of 50 states as far as education. AND the governer just cut more funds to the schools. I'm actually moving my family out of here within the next few weeks to Washington. At least there, the gang problem isn't as bad there as if you're living IN L.A.

Good thing your a cop. You don't even know the difference between Las Vegas and Nevada. How does Las Vegas place among big school systems? That is the question. Now go find out and stop spouting like a parrot.

It is "Governor" by the way...

I heard horrible things...and to beware...and such.

I selected one of those magnet schools...but all the mom's I've spoken to that live here and go to my church (military) that are zoned for this supposed horrible school...their kids go there and they find it just fine.

Now I'm wondering. I have to drive 20 minutes to get my daugther and then again from school...so that's 40 minutes per trip a day. I'm really concerned about gas prices and I will be getting a used car and worry about the reliability of the whole thing.

I'm considering placing her at that 'horrible' school.....Mojave High School.

Just don't know yet.
