...many thousands of calories
It's about the carb content - not the calories. And it's about choices. You could go to any buffet and make good choices - RE: avoiding low fat seed oils / aka vegetable oils, avoiding gluten, avoiding sugar. Guacamole for avocados. Make a b-line to the meat carving station. Burgers without the bun (as long as they aren't grilling in (questionable) oil. And for me, black coffee.

Co vid-19 situation?
I figure mask to pay, mask to load the plate, and unmask to eat / drink.

Golden Corral is the bottom of the pit. Disgusting junk and worse than cafeteria food

I'm guessing you won't be loading your own plate anymore.

Perhaps the Luby's model, where the food is behind sneeze guards and staff loads your plate per your requests?

That model, BTW, didn't help Luby's, as they went out of business during the pandemic.

I don't enjoy the feeling from eating large amounts of food; been fighting my weight forever and have long since learned to eat small meals full of veggies and very little meat. Still, I wish there were some decent cafeterias but they all seem to be gone. We once had excellent ones in the DC area run by Marriott and Scholls, but I have to chalk it up to the good old days. The AYCE buffets may have some good choices but since I only eat a small quantity of food I'm not going to pay their prices which are predicated on people eating 5000 calories per person.

I've been looking forward to the local buffets opening at GVR and Red Rock. Too bad about GVR and hope RR doesn't go that way either.

@mikefrombackeast: I used to go to sweet tomatoes for their salads once in a while but that's gone for good. There's an eye doctor in my local one now.

Once my two weeks from the 2nd shot is past, I'm going to try a off strip buffet during the week.

AYCE options for Sushi, Korean BBQ and BBQ like rolling smoke are also good options for those big eaters.

Apparently Stations buffets are not going to open at all. Maybe never.

https://www.ktnv.com/news/las-vegas-...l-never-return

The company's CFO, Stephen Cootey, went on to say, "I’m going to say ex-buffet because obviously, it would be down year-over-year because of the buffet, which I think we can fairly say will never return."

We are/were not big buffet goers but once in a while it was nice if we had a freebee. We were up in Mesquite last weekend for the big car show and stayed at Eureka, which to my surprise was very nice. We had their champagne brunch on Sunday (comped) and it was small, but very good. They served the food from behind the glass guards. The place was sparkling clean and the service was great.

What would be smart is if they converted these spaces to restaurants with buffet offerings on certain days, sort of like what the Grand Lux Cafe was doing prior to the pandemic:

A full service restaurant M-F, with a Buffet Brunch option on Saturdays and Sundays only.

So you can eat the exact combination of what you want, and concentrate on premium proteins and not cheap carbs.
