Greetings
Lived in Vegas for a long time, thinking of moving. Any update on the water issue? Also noticed they're building sub divisions again. How can they do that with the state engineer saying there's an issue?

Fast-growing Nevada Town Faces a Crisis Over Water - Washington State Groundwater Association.

This article explains the situation in Pahrump, it mentions Las Vegas water issues as well.

This report appears to be old. I cannot find it on the Review Journal. I suspect there has been much water under the bridge since it was written.

There is a water problem in Pahrump. Has been for a while. The real problem is that Nevada assigned water rights that do not exist to cotton farmers in the 50s. Now the people who drill domestic wells are tapping a water aquifer that cannot support the existing load on it. So the real conflict is between the right of small land owners to tap their local water versus the right of commercial users to use rights granted by the state of Nevada. The state ducks hard because they do not want to agree to any liability for allowing too much water draw years ago.

It is a hard problem but I would think that equity requires that parcel owners be able to tap the local water. That actually means the state may well have to cancel earlier permits that cannot be sustained. And they will inevitably be sued by those holding those permits.
