Today I'd prefer using an app like parkmobile or paybyphone. At my wife's office in Boston, they use her EZ Pass to charge for her parking. You Vegans would have your heads explode if you had to pay to park to go to work!!

Some of the downtown properties charge their employees to park.

Exactly. The strip was pretending to be bourgeoisie Manhattan and now it has to go back to being Nevada again.

For now. Once the inbound flights start filling up again, and the city is less dependent on the LA drive in business (which I assume it will be for a few months), pay to park will be back. This is especially true once there are more events firing up in the big new venues.

Enjoy the free parking while it lasts.

Nope, free parking is here to stay. I will agree with you that we will have a pretty strong recovery for a short period. Then the second wave will hit, and the casinos will be shut down sometime later this year. In other words, the recovery will not last long enough for the casinos to implement paid parking again.

So how long is it here to stay? This year? Next year?

I don't want to jinx anything but I don't think a second wave is closing things down. This country is staying open (I hope)!

Before I moved here from LA (6) years back, I came to Las Vegas on business 1-2X per month. I stayed at almost every Hotel on the strip, and built a great collection of pens from each facility. This was about 20 or so years back.
I used to like the old Sahara because they offered a coffee maker in the room, instead of having to go to the lobby in the AM or pay thru the nose for Room Service. I used to like the Stratosphere, because it was en-route to my Accounts in North Las Vegas, and had an Italian restaurant that I thought was great.

And I still hold the record for exceeding the Company per-diem meal allowance for a GREATdinner I had at a restaurant in the old Desert Passage

I do remember that there was never a charge for parking, ever..

Fast forward to moving here, and having no great desire to go to the Strip, when we examined visiting certain "attractions" like Eataly, or thinking about going to one of Bobby Flays great restaurants, I was appalled to find that it would cost something like $12 to park- Not even a break for locals!

If the return to free parking is here to stay- Good. It might inspire us to try some of the Strip restaurants, shows, and such without getting more soaked for cash than we already will be!

I was disputing that free parking at the MGM is only going to last 3 months, which I totally disagree with. I really don't know how long it will last otherwise. It is safe to say at least until the end of the year, but probably much longer. As far as a second wave, it is pretty much guaranteed. Whether they will shut everything down again is up for debate, but I personally feel they will.

It's going to need to be many times worse than its been in the Valley for them to consider shutting down once open. Just won't happen. People get used to the new "normal" quickly. Good, bad, or otherwise.

Who are all these people filling up flights to Las Vegas and why are they going there now? I think when people start to feel comfortable in the Casinos local and drive in business will return, but I am not talking to a lot of people who are anxious to fly anywhere.
