I'll be moving in a few months and looking to live in a more rural/equestrian (barns, ranches, stables, etc) part of Vegas. People have told me to look at the North West part of Vegas, but I am unfamiliar with the area, and I'm hoping people can give me some specific spots. I don't have a horse, but I'm looking to work with horses. Are these areas in the good or bad parts of town? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I couldn't find a map of the areas in the NW, but Henderson has them as well, you can see info at the link below. You're looking for a house in a rural neighborhood preservation (RNP) area.

I can't speak to the NW side of town, but all of the RNP areas are good/decent parts of town. Mission Hills/Mission Neighborhood would be the best area out of the ones in Henderson.

Notice where I live. The rules are a half acre up. No curbs or sidewalks or street lights. In my opinion if you want to have horses the minimum is an acre and two woulds be better. If you really want to go ranch style a bigger lot would be better yet. They do exist. There are even big lots with a little house. Looking at one the other day that had a brand new 600SF house on 2 acres.

I suggest you stick to the NW in Las Vegas. The only place that did a good job of keeping the tracts out. There are others even in the middle of the city.. But they tend to be balkanized in small groups. There are some smaller areas in Henderson including one that is up against the 215 between Eastern and St. Rose. Awkward though for a bigger place though the area is otherwise convenient. There are also some nice sites in the far southwest. And if you really want rural there is Pahrump where most of the LV cowboys have moved.

I would also recommend that you stay in the jurisdiction of Clark County. The cities have compatible zoning but they tend to be much more into the various codes. Can be a pain as you try to negotiate the number of chickens.

Anyway welcome to the Rural Neighborhood Preservation (RPN). That is what you want. I would never have guessed it existed here but it does and works pretty well.

As noted the N/W is best, but Enterprise has many 1 acre lots with horses still. I have a 3 acre horse stable just 2 blocks from me rural Enterprise and I love it.

There are some remaining rural areas in the South and SW like parts of Enterprise. Unfortunately it has massive tract development. In the NW they blocked most of that but to the south they did not get on top of it earlier enough. You can continue south into places like Sandy Valley and find real rural. But then you have to go 15 miles to find a gas station.

I hadn’t even considered South West. My brothers lives in Mountains Edge and I would like to stay fairly close to him. Where in the SW are there equestrian areas?

Go to

Hit the legend box. The equestrian areas are the RNPS. The are the areas surrounded by a red border.

You can locate them by the major streets and such.

How about checking out the old town of Blue Diamond. Very rural and leafy and you have Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area as your backyard. Red Springs is also nice.
