Doesn't matter how stupid you think the law is, that is the law, plain and simple. To me, it is much more hypocritical that you can serve alchohol before you can legally drink it. If you have your heart set on being a cocktail waitress then you better stay in MI until you turn 21 because you simply can't do it here.

I agree with you about the Michigan hypocracy. When I turned 18 (and I am aging myself here) I was legal to drink. I turned 18 in August, they voted for the higher age, 21 in Nov. I think I could drink legally until Dec and then that was it. I had to wait until I turned 21. They must've forgot about the waitstaff!

At any rate, you will only have to wait a little over a year to serve legally in Nevada. In the meantime, you could get a job hostessing or something if you wanted to go there before that. Believe me, time flies!

Not for the 18 year olds. There may have been for the 19 or 20 year olds. Well, I guess it added a couple years to my liver!! Then again, I would have to say that most of us that drank at 18 didn't stop. We just could not drink in bars.

Nevada gaming law says that you must be 21 to work in an establishment that participates in gaming. $1 million dollar fine for the establishment and $10k for the patron otherwise. According to state law, alcohol and gaming fall into similar categories, therefore the state has decided to make the legal age to serve alcohol 21. You must have a TAM card to work in ANY establishment that serves alcohol, and must be 21 to get it. Even a strip club that serves alcohol will not hire you to dance under 21 (referring to a previous post). If you don't like it (many don't, I don't. If you can die for this country, you should be able to drink), Utah is right next door. Law is law, thats fact. There is not an establishment here who will risk their business for one 20 y/o from Michigan. Sorry. But Las Vegas is a playground for those 21 and over.

laws are different in every state. in montana you can drive 75 miles an hour with a beer in your lap.

you can't serve alcohol under the age of 21 in most states. honestly, it makes more sense that way. if you want to be a really great cocktailer, you'll be able to properly make recommendations. you can't do that if you can't legally drink.
