So we've got an anniversary coming up, and the place we're going to has valet service - and I'd like to use it. Do you tip as you drop off, or when you pick up?

This is not a should I tip thread - I used to work where I received tips, so it's not a question of if. . .

When in Vegas, I've always tipped at both drop off and pick up - a couple of bucks each time.

According to Paris tips are no longer allowed and valets are instructed not to solicit them. My wife had dinner with a girl friend and got charged $18 to valet. Then she felt the valet wanted a tip. She did not but called Paris the next day. Paris claimed tipping is no longer expected and that the valets are well paid.

Okay, my tip in and tip out habit may be out of date. I have not been to LV since paid parking became the norm. TBH, I only go there for trade shows and it's going to be a while before I go back.

We cancelled the reservations at the place with a valet, and are going to a closer restaurant, with self parking.

Spoiler
free self parking . .

Yep. Since they have instituted a valet parking fee, all contract valets have been given raises. Only need to tip for exceptional service.

Out here, everyone expects a tip if you make eye contact.

Generally speaking if I pay for parking, I do not tip the valet. Some exceptions, like if they guy really hustles or does something else above and beyond.

One time after a vallet outing (the next day) our engine light came on. Service said that if you don't close your gas tank all the way, you know, until it clicks, the (lack of?) backpressure whathaveyou triggers a check engine light. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

According to mgm Caesars boycott on Facebook, the raise was $2hr which should put them at $12-$15.
