In the newspaper the other day, I was shocked to learn that, on an average day, with dry roads, in Clark County, there's an average of 30-50 car crashes! Yes, dry roads! In 10 days, that's 300 to 500 crashes! In 100 days that's 3000 to 5000!

Last Thursday, a rain day, there were 169 car accidents. 110 property damage crashes, 44 injury crashes and 15 hit-and-run crashes.

In some ways, a stimulant to the economy? Auto body shops, new cars, personal injury attorney's, chiropractic clinics, revenue for the city/county with traffic fines, and?

Anyone know how we stack up with other cities of this size for average car accidents per day? Are we out of line? And any solutions to reducing these statistics?

I'm so glad I work the night shift, leave home at 9:40pm, freeways are quiet, to work at 10pm, off at 6am and little traffic on Sat./Sun. am's and not even bad on Monday morning driving home. Stop at Albertson's on the way home, and that's the limit to my driving during the week, bicycling early morning hours on deserted streets on days off.

Not disputing your claims, but that seems like an awful lot of car accidents. Maybe that's why you see the faces of so many personal injury lawyers plastered all over the place.

My biggest fear would be getting hit by an illegal with no insurance, and then you have to make an uninsured motorist claim. We had that happen once when an illegal rear-ended my wife's car and totaled it. The car was covered (by our insurance) but it was not a good deal for us.

That seems appropriate to me. With all of the taxis hurrying about, and so many people driving rental cars that they are unfamiliar with, it would be expected. Add to that the throngs of people crossing streets in the strip area, and the distractions to drivers. In 2015, Seattle averaged 30 accidents/day, for comparison.

Seattle averaging 30 a day, well, so we're not too far out of line!

When I first read those statistics in the paper, I thought it was a typo, and I asked others at work, typo or not, and they didn't think so at all.

And how many of those in accidents, head right for the Heavy Hitter, Kutner or Bernstein?

One of my co-workers was rear-ended by a racing driver, 4 months ago, rear-ended, while he was stopped, at 60MPH. He finally settled with Bernstein, and all he's getting out of it is $6,700! His car was a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire!

not sure of the criteria used but if my McDonalds hash browns slip out of their little bag and falls on the floor, well that could be seen as an accident as well.

I drive on the streets a lot. I am simply amazed that it's only 30-50 a day. I can't drive to the grocery store without seeing some inept moron run into another inept moron.

Also, can we please stop calling them accidents? There's nothing accidental about them. It's 100% the fault of people being unable to control their vehicles.

The biggest question! If we turn to self-driving cars one day, there'll be no more accidents?

Your co-worker should have retained a lawyer. I finally did after a woman ran a red light & crashed my car into a steel barrier. I only finally got one though because the insurance companies were jacking me around & I was in pain. Yes, it took an long time to settle but it also took two years before it was discovered I needed a back operation.

No, I didn't get a fortune but, since I can no longer work, at least I have something to fall back on.

I assume he/she settled but there may be undiscovered injuries in the future that the person will have to pay for themselves. It was actually to my advantage that it took so long as it wasn't until I had extensive pain before they did a full work-up & I finally had the operation.

After driving here for a while, it's not surprising at all to me.
