After 4.5 years of living here in New Orleans, my family and I will be heading west to Las Vegas in a week's time. Feeling so many mixed emotions right now, predominantly excitement of landing a great job in the healthcare field. One of my apprehensions though is that this will be my first time working 2-10pm shift. I am excited of getting to spend more time with my kids in their school activities during the daytime, but what scares me is when I get off from work at night going home. I will be working in the 89128 area and just want to get some safety feedback in that area during those hours.

This is a 24 hour a day city and many people will be working the same hours you do. Just be careful of impaired drivers. My insurance company told us that in LV 25% of drivers are impaired one way or another.

89128 is a good area. Nothing to sweat but still you can be a victim of random crime. It happens all over the valley. If you want a taste of NOLA. Lolas and Rhythm Kitchen are your best options. Welcome.

Congrats on the move. You will be going from extremely humid to extremely dry. Subtract 30 degrees to compare Las Vegas heat with Louisiana heat.

This sounds way worse than it is. The national average is 22%, and isn't a measure of actual impairment, but rather a test for substances which may impair. These numbers count the sort of OTC substances that "may cause drowsiness."

89128 at 10 pm is a sleepy little village. Most people have gone inside and to bed after dark.

However, 'Las Vegas' nightlife on the Strip and Downtown is just getting lit at that hour so you may have some overtime in the healthcare field.

Situational awareness is critical in this valley 24/7, 7 days a week, non exclusive of any specific zip code. Don't be lulled into thinking 89128 is Mayberry....it ain't !

You're going to be driving right?

Seems most people here drive into the garage and you don't see them until they drive back out.

I certainly would not be worried to drive at that hour

We have a little more violent crime and a little less property crime.

Like most places where you are is not as important as who you associate with!

Hope you love it here.

Nowhere in the OP's original question did I read a parking garage was available....unless you might be assuming Mountain View hospital. Secondly, parking garages can be havens for homeless and less desirable cliental. Yea... They have a roof...and yea...they "sometimes" have cameras or roving security...however parking garages, in and of themselves are not safe havens...Situational awareness is the key...!
