Las Vegas is much more comfortable than NYC in the summer. It can get very dry in the Mojave so the heat is more bearable.

Temps are hotter in LV than in NYC, but summer humidity is much lower. There are still buildings without air conditioning in NYC. In LV, no.

Everyplace here is air conditioned. To me, summer is too hot but the weather is perfect for the rest of the year. And you don't have to shovel heat! And after decades of shoveling snow and driving on ice, that's a good thing for me.

Electricity here is too expensive. My bill on a 1500sf house can easily run $300 a month in summer. And that's after replacing the insulation, doors, and windows. The good news is that I probably only used the heat for 2 or 3 weeks last winter. So it does balance out. You just know you will spend a LOT on AC in the summer. And doing without is not an option.

We have a lot of sunshine here. I hope solar technology continues to move forward and will soon offer cost effective alternatives to NVEnergy.

I have been to Vegas many times over the years and to NYC also. NYC is humid. Vegas is dry, so the heat is not so bad but stay shaded, drink plenty of water take it easy till you get accustomed to the climate. Here are some opinions from other posters here:

It's so hot that my phone stopped working.
Is Las Vegas unbearingly hot in the summer time?
Wow 105 degree heat didn't even feel hot to me

I grew up in NY (Long island) and I'm sure I am the odd woman out, but I actually prefer the humidity of NY to the so-hot-my-blood-thickens-in-my-veins heat of the desert. And I've been here 15 yr and lived in NY until I was 31, fwiw...

I agree with you completely. I lived on Long Island for 30 years and here almost 15 too. I MUCH prefer NY summers to Vegas summers. I don't recall ever once complaining about a NY summer. Winters, yes. Vegas summers to me are unbearable and miserable, even at midnight. I have been using my car a/c since January, but have only started in the house a few weeks ago.

I guess it's all based on your perspective. I know it's dry but 110 is 110 - especially in the sun.

I'm in Vegas every January for a trade show. One early morning I was leaving my hotel for a run and the concierge stops me to say "Sir, it's cold this morning - you may want to wear more than shorts." I asked the temp and he replied "50 sir." I laughed and said "It was 12 when I left my house yesterday. I'll be fine."

I often use the AC in my rental car during time I'm there.
